Making History! Making Magic!
Hello Friend,
February, the month of love— and black history— has come to a brisk end, how did it go for you?
From the GRAMMYs to the appointments, selections and commencement of elections in Nigeria, February was a major month of achievements and impact for Black and African women all over the globe; here are some highlights:
Abiola Bawuah becomes United Bank of Africa’s first ever female CEO
Viola Davis goes EGOT!
Tems gets a Grammy!
Mimi Bartel becomes General Manager of Filmone Studios
Sheryl Lee Ralph, Rihanna at the 2023 Super Bowl
One thing we’ve always known is that African and Black women will always stand up and stand out— February proved that beyond all reasonable doubt!
To honor our black history, we time-traveled to the late 1800s to learn about the Warrior Queen Mother of the Asante kingdom, Yaa Asantewaa and her exploits against British colonials. Read about it here.
For our February Spotlight, we had an insightful conversation with the indomitable Tokunboh Ishmael, and her work in helping African businesses and startups reach their full potential with Alitheia Capital. Read her full interview here.
Nora Awolowo, Naniki Seboni, and Joyce Peters. These three captivating women joined us for our weekly LLA interviews; catch the tidbits.
#LLA100WOMEN is coming!
Every year for almost a decade, we have highlighted and chronicled 100 of the most resourceful and dynamic women in our annual LLA 100 Most Inspiring Women in Nigeria list.
In 2023, with support from Baileys, we are presenting another version of the list — this time highlighting the brightest, and most inspiring Nigerian female entrepreneurs with the enterprise edition.
The full list will be published on March 8, commemorating #InternationalWomensDay. We dare say it’d be our most amazing list yet, so watch out for it.
Here’s a quote we’ll leave you with till next time:
“If you want the best the world has to offer, offer the world your best”
